June in the Studio: New Illustrations, Surface Pattern Designs & Colourful Creations

June was a busy month in the Creative Monsoon studio, with plenty happening behind the scenes. From developing illustrations into coordinating surface pattern designs to adding colourful new products to the shop, here's a look at what I've been working on throughout the month.
Alphabet Giraffes
It was lovely to revisit one of my favourite children's illustrations and create a coordinating Alphabet Giraffe surface pattern design, allowing the artwork to work beyond the art print. The playful repeat features cheerful giraffes, colourful alphabet letters and sunshine motifs, making it ideal for children's fabric, nursery décor, wallpaper, bedding, stationery and other licensed products.
Whether displayed as a print or repeated across fabric, the design keeps the same bright, educational feel that inspired the original illustration.
Lucky Cat
Another project that grew this month was the Lucky Cat artwork.
The cheerful Maneki Neko illustration is now available as a colourful Good Luck greeting card, while a coordinating Lucky Cat surface pattern design expands the artwork into a playful repeat suitable for fabric, gift wrap, stationery and home décor.
I always enjoy finding new ways for an illustration to live beyond a single product. Creating coordinating artwork allows the original design to be used across multiple applications while keeping a consistent style.
Father's Day Fun
With Father's Day on the horizon in many parts of the world, June also included a couple of fun designs celebrating dads.
The Dad Bod – Father Figure walrus t-shirt brings a little humour to Father's Day, while the World's Coolest Dadpenguin greeting card offers a colourful way to let Dad know just how much he's means.
Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most enjoyable to illustrate.
Highland Cow
The Highland Cow made another appearance in the studio this month.
With its shaggy fringe, sweeping horns and gentle expression, it's one of those illustrations that always brings a smile. This charming character continues to be one of my favourite animal illustrations and fits perfectly with Creative Monsoon's colourful, approachable style.
Looking Ahead
One of the things I love most about being an Australian illustrator and surface pattern designer is watching ideas continue to grow over time.
A sketch can become an art print. An illustration can become a greeting card. A finished artwork can inspire a coordinating fabric design or surface pattern. Every month brings new opportunities to build on existing ideas while creating colourful artwork for prints, home décor, stationery, fabrics and licensing.
Thanks for following along with this month's studio update. I hope you've enjoyed this little peek behind the scenes, and I look forward to sharing more colourful illustrations and surface pattern designs with you next month.
